A (not so) Radical Approach to Inflammatory Bowel Disease: Carnivore-Ketogenic Diets

A recent study highlights the transformative potential of carnivore and ketogenic diets for patients suffering from inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). In a case series of 10 patients, including those with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, all experienced significant clinical improvements and many achieved complete remission—without relying on medications.

The diets focused on nutrient-dense, animal-based foods like beef, eggs, and animal fats, eliminating inflammatory triggers common in processed and plant-based foods. Patients reported improvements in bowel health, emotional well-being, and social quality of life, with no return of symptoms when the diet was strictly followed. One patient even remarked, “The decades I dealt with Crohn’s are like another lifetime.”

This study isn’t just about treating IBD—it challenges the conventional wisdom of nutrition and chronic disease management. Instead of relying on pharmaceutical interventions or high-fiber, plant-based approaches, the carnivore-ketogenic diet showcases the power of simplicity: a diet rooted in the natural, whole foods our ancestors thrived on.

What does this mean for the future of nutrition? It’s time to rethink our food system and the advice we’ve been given. Instead of demonizing red meat and animal fats, we should be exploring how these nutrient-dense foods can heal the body and restore health.

Let’s have the courage to demand better solutions for chronic disease—solutions that prioritize real, whole food over the profit-driven processed food and pharmaceutical industries. This study is just the beginning of a revolution in how we approach health.
